This APP designed to combat harmful drinking through the integration of wearable technology and AI is under development. The app aims to offer users personalized insights into their alcohol consumption and provide guidance on moderating intake. This project includes foundational and market research to ensure the app’s features align with users’ needs, motivations, and cultural contexts. The research is in progress, with results to be delivered shortly.
Challenge
The sponsor wants to develop a product that goes beyond current alcohol-tracking apps. The challenge is to create an app that not only tracks alcohol consumption but also detects intoxication levels and predicts alcohol-related health issues. To achieve this, the company needs to understand user preferences to ensure the app features resonate with users.
Solution
In collaboration with UCI, the project is structured into several key research phases:
- Foundational Research: Focused on understanding the cultural, social, and personal contexts that shape drinking habits. This involved cultural probes and user interviews with a diverse group of participants to identify their motivations, needs, and challenges.
- Market Research: Conducted a comprehensive content analysis of competitor alcohol-related apps, analyzing features, user feedback, and identifying gaps in the market that Asahi’s app could fill.
- Value Testing Research: Concept testing and value-ranking exercises were designed to gather feedback on proposed app features, ensuring they meet user expectations and align with cultural differences in alcohol consumption.
Impact (In Progress)
This research is still underway, and initial insights have yet to be fully analyzed. However, once completed, the expected outcomes include:
- Personas and User Journeys: Creation of updated personas reflecting diverse drinking behaviors and cultural influences, guiding feature prioritization.
- Competitive Landscape Report: A comparative analysis of existing alcohol-related apps to inform the development of unique features that fill market gaps.
- Feature Prioritization Matrix: A tool to guide the sponsor in identifying which app features will most effectively support users in managing their alcohol consumption.
Further details on the product’s impact will be available once the research findings are finalized and integrated into the app’s development cycle.
